Despite Landing Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers Still Have +3000 Odds to Win the Championship

According to various sources, the Jazz are trading star guard Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for three unprotected first-round selections and two pick swaps. The pick exchanges take place in 2026 and 2028, while the unprotected picks fall in 2025, 2027, and 2029. Mitchell shot 45% from the floor last season and averaged 23.9 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds.

Additionally, he was chosen for his third straight All-Star Game. Mitchell was selected by Utah with the No. 13 overall choice in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Louisville, and now that he and Rudy Gobert have left the team, it seems as though the Jazz are beginning a complete rebuild.

Without having to give up practically anything important, the Cavaliers have acquired a player who is rated among the Top 15 players in the world.

Cleveland Cavaliers not among the favorites to win the championship

When word of a trade bringing All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland leaked on Thursday, it caused even more tremors to be felt throughout the odds board. The Cavaliers gained a genuine superstar while keeping the core of the group that everyone had previously dubbed as “Next.”

They now possess what is probably the league’s most talented roster and unquestionably the NBA’s brightest future. The Cavaliers are now +3,000 as of late Thursday afternoon, up from +9,000 as of yesterday’s report. My God, this squad ought to be the favorite by a wide margin.

Until we see how the backcourt of Garland and Mitchell functions as a unit, it is now too early to place a wager on the Cavaliers’ chances of winning the East or the championship. This appears to be a strong club that can both score goals and play excellent defence, which was one of their strong suits last year.
